Lechtal local history museums
The present is inevitably linked to the past. Life from the past continues to shape us today and the small local museums in the Lechtal preserve treasures from times long past. It's nice that these little treasure troves still exist. No less than three small local history museums provide an insight into the natural history, cultural history and folklore collections of the Tyrolean Lech Valley.
The local history museum in Holzgau was once a farmhouse built in the 18th century. Its fresco decoration on the house facade dates back to 1786. The small museum gives a good impression of the very simple life of the Lechtal population at that time. During the summer months, guided tours with a knowledgeable cultural guide are offered there every week.
In the time-out village of Gramais, Austria's smallest municipality, you might not immediately expect to find a museum as well. Therefore, it is all the more surprising which curiosities can be found in the small "Gramaiser Huamhaus" museum. It is said that this museum of local history houses the largest collection of irons in Tyrol.
The rustic Lechtal Mountain Hay Museum is located at an altitude of around 1900 meters. The Jöchelspitzbahn is a comfortable way to gain altitude, after which you can continue on foot in the direction of Lachenkopf. There, in the midst of colorfully blooming mountain meadows, stands a log cabin that is home to the mountain hay museum. The traditional museum conveys to its visitors the hard and privation-rich work of the Lechtal mountain farmers. Old tools and a picture exhibition give insight into times long past.
Amazing and an absolute insider tip is the small, private hunting museum at Gasthof Alpenrose in the time-out village of Hinterhornbach. The passionate hunter family has been collecting local trophies in the so-called "Jagdstüberl" for decades, which can be admired there.
