The side-valley village of Gramais was first chartered in 1427 and lies on an altitude of 1,328 metres. Only one other municipality of Austria is smaller than it.
Near Häselgehr the road branches off to Gramais and it leads along the Otterbachtal valley directly into the small village with its districts Dörfl, Gschwendt and Riefen. Surrounded by steep mountain flanks, Gramais is a true paradise for hikers, mountaineers and nature lovers. Located amidst the Lechtal Alps, the typical mountain village is surrounded by numerous untamed brooks and waterfalls as well as five mountain lakes.
Gramais Local Heritage Museum
Gramais has preserved a piece of “home” in the “Hoamhaus”
The homeland and being tied to one’s roots are omnipresent in the Gramais and the entire Lechtal valley. For that reason the Gramais local heritage museum was established in 2011. The small museum is not only a storage place for old tools and devices of rural life, but also point of documentation of the historic development of the smallest municipality of Austria.
