Holzgau Suspension Bridge

  • 200.5 metres long and approx. 105 metres high
  •  

  • width of the footpath: 1 metre and covered with grids
  •  

  • height of handle: 130 centimtres and LED-lit at night
  •  

  • up to approx. 630 persons could be on the bridge; completion: late October 2011

  • rope suspension bridge with two suspension ropes 
  •  

  • pylons of a height of 5.2 metres on both sides
  •  

  • ropes anchored on each side with 6 rock anchors each; rope tension: 26.5 tons presently
  •  

  • collapse load: 280 tons per suspension rope

  • diameter of rope: 50 millimetres

  • weight of the bridge: 22.8 tons

Building cost and financing: 

Building cost for the bridge approx. EUR 560,000 (gross + approx. EUR 90,000 for feeder hiking trails and various extra costs (planning, statics, geology…) = overall investment cost of approx. EUR 650,000

Support: approx. 2/3 of the investment cost from support provided the regional-economical programmes (Land Tirol and EU). 

Financing key of own resources: 

     

  • EUR 100.000 tourist board, Holzgau branch + additionally the tourist board covers cost for marketing, signposting and resting places 
  •  

  • EUR 50.000 Innerer Aufschlag agricultural association – donation for the suspension bridge 
  •  

  • municipality of Holzgau: approx. EUR 45,000 
  •  

Objective:  

Spectacular building structure, which will become a popular excursion destination. Holzgau and the Lechtal valley will get plenty of media interest and more popular as a consequence. The number of guests and overnights should be increased. 

Target group: 

1.    hikers on the 125km-long Lechweg route

2.    new holiday makers, which want to spend their holidays in the Lechtal 

3.    one-day excursionists and persons booking short breaks from the neighbouring Bavaria, Vorarlberg and also from the North and South Tirol.
