The evergreen juniper is a versatile plant. The branches are used for smoking, the berry cones serve as a seasoning and are indispensable with the enclosed seeds in the gin production.

The juniper is also widely used as a household and medicinal remedy, for example for rheumatism and gout, and Sebastian Kneipp already recommended the plant for digestive complaints.
