Ski tour Großer Krottenkopf Traverse

The Großer Krottenkopf Traverse is a challenging and long ski tour from Elbigenalp to Holzgau, climbing and circumnavigating the highest mountain in the Allgäu Alps. It runs through the Bernhardstal valley, past the Karalm towards the Karjoch, then south of the Ochsenkopf in a northerly direction into a hidden saddle. This is followed by a rapid descent into Hermannskar and an ascent to the Krottenkopfscharte and the summit of the Großer Krottenkopf. After the rapid descent over the summit flank and through the northern gully into Hermannskar, another but short counter-ascension follows into the saddle between Krottenkopf and Hornbachspitze, another steep descent into and through Öfnerkar, past the Rußgumpenalpen and finally descending and pushing through Höhenbachtal to Holzgau.
